With the success of the Kawai/Boston project Steinway decided to launch a more affordable new line of pianos; the Essex brand.
Kawai being based in Japan, was perfect for Steinway’s Boston line, but they had to this time select a capable piano manufacturer with an even more affordable labor rate.
For the Essex line Steinway chose Pearl River the world’s largest maker of pianos. Sure you could get a new Pearl River baby grand piano for under $10,000, but it would not have the two conspicuously badged “Designed By Steinway & Sons” logos!
All musicians know it’s the badging placed upon the piano, not the actual piano manufacturer which has the largest impact on the quality and performance of an instrument….
New this piano sells for over $15,000! This virtually new one was recently traded for a new Kawai. If you are looking for a like new Steinway, Kawai, Yamaha, Boston or Essex, you will want to visit Dave’s Piano Showroom of Tampa Bay. It is worth the drive from anywhere!
