In the late 80s Steinway wanted to make a more affordable piano but quickly learned they needed to leverage the know how and expertise of a proven production caliber, piano manufacturer. Many companies were considered, but after careful deliberation, Kawai was selected in 1991 to spearhead the Boston series build out.
