Yamaha now is the most popular brand of piano, as a result of their very successful marketing campaign.  Yamaha placed their pianos in front of the world’s most popular musicians.  Their multi decade, marketing campaign has yielded much fruit.  Now, the US population overwhelmingly chooses Yamaha over any other piano brand. 

With their gain in popularity over the years, Yamaha has increased their prices, cashing in on their wildly successful marketing strategy, to what is presently considered by most to be an astronomical level. 

There is however, a silver lining.  Because new Yamaha pianos are so incredibly expensive, much like a luxury automobile; they depreciate significantly when they enter the secondary market.
