100 years ago, we had access to old growth forest. Comparing satellite imagery of the world today, as compared to decades ago, it can be seen that the Earth has never been more green. However, this greenery is not old growth forest but saplings.

Look at the difference in wood density! Home remodelers, say that sparks fly when they try to cut into a 2 x 4 from the late 1800s, early 1900s. Viewing the photo below, you can see precisely why.
