Since 1927 Kawai has built some of the world’s finest pianos in Hamamatsu, Japan.  Unlike Steinway which has changed ownership hands multiple times over the years, Kawai is family owned and operated  nearly 100 years later!

Kawai has systematically replaced the 8000 parts which for hundreds of years have been constructed of wood, to modern materials such as ABS Carbon, which are much stronger and virtually impervious to fluctuations, due to temperature change.  This action is referred to as the Millennium III movement.

Note:  While Kawai has agreed to build the Boston piano for Steinway; Kawai only uses their most advance Millennium III action in pianos which bear the Kawai family name.

If you are considering a Yamaha, Steinway or Boston baby grand or grand piano you owe it to yourself to audition the Kawai brand; what is considered by those in the know to be the superior production caliber piano on the market today.  If you are in Tampa, Clearwater, St. Pete or anywhere in Florida it is worth the drive to see this fine instrument!

Just like the top of a violin is curved for tonal projection, so too is the soundboard in a piano.  The tremendous down force caused by tightening the strings to pitch slowly causes the soundboard to go flat. This loss of crown translates to a up to 2/3 dB loss at decade 6-7.

In other words pianos start with 100% tonal projection and finishes with just a third.  Or said another way, pianos get much quieter with time. It is for this reason piano shoppers in Tampa Bay, Clearwater, St  Pete and beyond should focus on a preowned piano from the 1990s or preferably the 2000s like the one featured here.
