Steinway chose Pearl River in part because they are known for producing some of the world’s finest pianos. This relaunch was VERY successful because Pearl River had the level of refinement, tooling and know how necessary to meet Steinway’s standards.

Pearl River pianos naturally rate equal to Steinway’s Essex line but are considered to be a significantly better value. This is due to the fact that Pearl River pianos sell for thousands less than the Essex. Why? Allow me to explain.

First, Pearl River charges Steinway a fee to build each Essex piano. Secondly, Steinway sells the Essex to their dealers for a profit. Finally, the dealer sell the Essex to the consumer for a profit. This triple mark up pricing structure is not condusive to achieving a low price.
